The DCS Typometer is a truly indispensible, high precision tool for the accurate measurement of type and font sizes up to 340 points, DIN format sizes, line spacing in pica-points and line thicknesses.

The DCS Lithometer also allows you to measure screen angles and widths and offers a screen tester that accurately measures and tests both films and layout proofs.

Designed specifically for the graphic design, pre-press and print industries, the DCS Typometer and Lithometer are supplied within a white, scratch resistant PVC slip case, making the DCS Typometer and Lithometer a great addition to any studio.

The DCS Typometer allows you to:

• Measure type up to 340 points
• Gauge line spacing in pica-points
• Measure line thicknesses in pica-points
• Simple DIN Format size reference resource

The DCS Lithometer allows you to:

• Measure screen angle and screen values as well as printed items
• Gauge distance between screen lines from 50 to 300 lpi
• Measure in millimetres and inches with the mini-ruler

Type size measurement:

• The scale measures the height of capital letters within a margin range from 4 to 31 points, ideally the letters H or P are used for the purpose. Slide the Typometer horizontally until the letter vertically fills the space provided, completely and exactly.
• Type sizes up to 340 points can be measured using the capital letter height index. The degree of precision is +4% referenced to sans serif type.

Line spacing:

• The intervals from 6 to 15 pica-points are most commonly used in practice and available here. Spacing is always measured between typeface baselines
• To achieve precision measurement to two decimal places in bodies of text of several lines, lay the lower metrology line (=0) on the typeface baseline of the lowest line of text . Find another metrology line a few lines of text further up that is also exactly on a baseline. The value thus determined is divided by the number of lines of text and gives you the exact line spacing.

DCS Lithometer function:

• Screen angle - The semicircle is for quick determination of screen angle. Simply lay it on a screen area. The ruler is used as the horizontal plane here. Where a circular pattern similar to a thick dot forms, this becomes the point at which the angle can be read off.
• Screen size - Lay the Lithometer on the screen and turn the ruler so that the screen angle shows at 90 degrees. A cross formation appears in the measurement window at this ruler angle. Lines per inch or centimetre can be read off at the ends.
• Screen values - Having carried out the Screen Angle and Size procedures (as previously described) and determined the size, find the appropriate metrology row, then, align the rows of dots to the same screen angle and check identical overlap with a magnifying glass.
